@dirtbike5100 Yes, many older mowers use this method to vent exhaust. It's good in that the grass tends to hold the smoke, but bad in that the mufflers get clogged really easy. At least in all the old Lawnboys I've seen, 1/2 had a rotted or clogged muffler.

Tunnels have there own emergency crews that respond to accidents. If a fire were to break in a tunnel w/ a long line of very flammable cars there, things could get very bad extremely fast. Plus they want to quickly get things moving again.
