Powerful story telling is the foundation of
successful media production. Producers are encouraged to create and
tell a compelling story in digital movie
short format. Judges pay special
attention to original script writing and
acting in this category. This category
is a model in the University of California A-G approved course offerings.
16 TDR Documentary
Max length: up to 3 minutes
Documentaries are used to raise awareness about, and provide strong perspective on, important societal issues
and situations. Successful documentaries hit hard about important things.
Students are encouraged to produce
a non-fiction narrative or unusual examples of creative journalism that address and investigate actual realities,
serious issues with powerful human
interest.
16 TDR Experimental Beauty/Surrealism
Max length: up to 3 minutes
Producers are invited to express visual
creativity in this entry. This category
invites "out of the box" or "on the
edge" productions. This may include
experimental or surrealism content
that aligns with the "art standard" in
California curriculum frameworks.
16 TDR Music Video
Max length: up to 3 minutes
Great sound and visual design are the
essence of today's culture and
entertainment. Student video buffs
can work with aspiring rock stars to
produce the next top music video or
demonstrate creative, audio-featured
entries! This category requires, youth
produced, original digital sound design (music or no music) for the entry.
16 TDR Sports Industry - People, Stories, Feats
Max length: up to 3 minutes
On the field or behind the scenes, sports
provide inspiration, partnerships, and
examples of extraordinary achievement. Producers are encouraged
to explore a variety of original story
ideas, from triumph to despair, and
how athletes and their supporting
organizations of people perform, influence society, impact culture and the
economy.
16 TDR Commercial Duet
Max length: :30 second and :15 second
for each version.- With credits, total
length of this submission not to exceed 3 minutes.
Each entry requires two versions of the
same commercial, one in a :30 format
and one in a :15 format. The commercial should advertise/promote a real or imagined product, service, technology or commodity.
16 TDR Public Service Announcement Duet
Duet -- Max length: :30 second and :15
second for each PSA - With credits,
total length of this submission not to
exceed 3 minutes.
Each entry requires two versions of the
same PSA, one in a :30 format and
one in a :15 format. The PSA should
promote a positive personal or social
behavior; highlight a social issue; or
advocate for a cause. The PSA may
not promote a for-profit business.
16 TDR Perspectives on the Environment
Max length: 3 minutes
Students concerned about the health
and sustainability of the planet have
an opportunity to speak out on an
issue that will impact humanity for
generations to come. Topics may
include: climate change, energy, air
quality, water supply, ecosystems,
endangered species, land use, waste
reduction, overpopulation and environmental stewardship.
