Having their 1 year anniversery in October, the band has gone through many musical changes. We are a gospel group, but not a Contemporary Christain group. We do Gospel music, our way. o Torn Skies riginated in the fall of 2009, Torn Skies (originally Golden Roses), has truly lived up to their personal description as being a true original band. Coming from a rock, blues, and jazz background, guitarist, Henry Volk got the idea to start a 'blues-jazz band' and drafted Tyler Bulmer on bass, (Whom had a background in rock to reggae style of music) . Needing a rhythm section to his trio, Volk asked mandolin player, Caleb Edwards (who had a drumming history) to join with the idea of becoming a blues band. With Edwards coming from a Bluegrass, old time, and Celtic music background, He was opposed to the drums but wanted to experiment with the mandolin in this type of music. After a 'debate' the trio agreed Edwards would join as the mandolin player and lead singer for the group Golden Roses. After a while they changed the name to Torn Skies (Thanks to the name by Tyler Bulmer) and they started doing cover songs such as Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix with other well known blues-rock cover tunes. After writing and doing some original songs, the band decided to go towards a more creative style and their wheels started turning. They also realized they needed a drummer but still liked the twist of the mandolin, and after several auditions, the band turned to Edwards's dad, Rob Edwards for their drummer. 2010 came and the band stayed relatively busy for being 2 months old and was booked at a Christian youth lock-in. The band, coming from gospel backgrounds but at the time doing secular music, had to learn all gospel music and enjoyed every minute of it. Then after many gospel music bookings, Torn Skies decided to do Gospel Music instead of the secular they were doing. Doing old songs such as Two Coats, John, and Amazing Grace, the band stayed true to their Gospel roots while still proceeding with the idea of bringing a new kind of musical creativity to the table. After staying busy the whole summer of 2010, Bulmer came with news of attending college soon and departed from the band in the fall of 2010. Saddened, Volk and Edwards started looking for a new bassist and Wyatt Murray's name came up. Murray, coming from a classical background (with the exception of Victor Wooten and Cliff Burton) brought a whole new sound to the band and was asked to join soon after. With Volk on guitar, Edwards on mandolin, and Murray on bass, and Rob Edwards on drums, the four creative guys definitely have so far fulfilled the idea of bringing a new style of music while spreading the word of Christ and plan on hitting 2011 head on. Torn Skies is an all gospel band and will not slip in a secular song in anywhere as some bands do. Though they are a Gospel group, they do not claim to be Contemporary Christian and does not fit in that type of setting if you are wondering. They will 'tastefully' rock your socks off while turning around and make you think about your life and spiritual relationship with Christ in a softer song. God has given them the talents and abilities to be able to do this music with a new twist and we give all the glory to Him. With the new ideas flowing through their fingers and the love of God coming through their music, the four make Torn Skies
