This is the most extraordinarily powerful performance of Beethoven's most cosmically charged symphony. von Karajan drives the orchestra like a madman, lashing the musicians to within an inch of their lives as the music blazes like a burning chariot across the sky. Fucking brilliant.

Maybe it's just me but I find this plods along like a knackered old carthorse in comparison to von Karajan's performance with the BPO. He drives the orchestra like a madman and the effect is electrifying and thrilling, far more "con brio" than this effort. Klemperer was much better with the Eroic...

@Micks356 It's the CD version. Re-balanced and re-mastered and in my opinion, fucked up. The vinyl sound of the original is way better. This is far too sibilant and harsh compared to the original. It's still a great song from a brilliant album.

There was once a time before Simon Cocksucker Cowell and talentless munters like Adele, when great bands like this played live on TV. I'm glad I was there to see it. What a great performance, what a great noise.
