Tony Kapel is a sun-bathed and tropical version of the Renaissance man. He is a visual artist, writer, musician, scuba diver, and part-time animal wrangler for local cable access television. And he's also one half of the husband and wife band Pocket of Lollipops.

Closing time was originally to be built around two specific artist -- I realized they shared a studio with a handful of other artist -- so I started covering all of them. I wanted to get a better idea of what artist and musicians do when creating. I wanted to capture that -- and I felt it was important to cover them in their natural setting -- so I kept the lighting of their studios the way it is lit up when they work -- I didn't want to arrange a pretty shot -- I wanted to capture their atmosphere and what they deal with on a regular as they work. Most don't know what an artist daily routine is, so I decided to not make it so much an interview type documentary -- if they wanted to talk its was cool if they didn't, I think it just complimented their world that I was actually interrupting.

The musicians aspect was to cover who was working he scene at that time -- and when one watches it now you can see who's still doing what. Most of the venues are gone or re-named. This footage takes us back to 2000.

the next one will be dabbling a bit into the other stuff of the crowd. Ive been filming the music and art scene since 1998 or so -- which started with a hi8 I had gotten my hands on. The next film will consist of footage from -- slack lounge, bushwhacker, poplife from Piccadilly and the party avenger. This footage will be a little more on the candid side - old stuff -- everyone's much younger so it's a nice look even further back then the first one -- these films are only going to make sense later.
