Yours may be a valid observation, for his voice is indeed very beautiful; however, had he sung this, say, at the MET, i.e, without a microphone, perhaps one half of the people may not have heard him!

I fully agree with the attributes you chose for EB's voice. In addition, he cast quite an impressive figure on stage. Unfortunately, I never heard him in a live performance.

@marcellny Nonsense, Pavarotti would not have tolerated it, for he always insisted that everything go his way. Here, he “disobeyed” Mozart, and everybody knows it was wrong, because at this tempo it sounds a lot less than beautiful!

The manner in which these songs are sung is testament to DFD’s professionalism, his scrupulous attentiveness to details, and his untiring devotion to the composer’s intention; be it Mahler, Schubert or Bach!

This song is about repose, peace, and love; don’t rush it! Every phrase in it should be reflected before it is uttered – uttered with inner tranquility and devotion! Good luck and much success to you!

In my opinion, the improvised ornamentation is strange and displeasing. It takes away from the seductive power of Mozart’s melody and its sense of urgency and lure, and it would probably warn the girl to stay inside!

A masterful interpretation!

I think Mozart must have anticipated Cesare Siepi for this role; the voice, the stature, the stage presence! I can’t think of anyone who is, or has been, a more convincing Don Giovanni!

Very beautiful voice, sung with great feeling, and a nearly perfect interpretation in every way!

Ein insgesamt angemehmer Vortrag dieses vortrefflichen Liedes, besonders auch seitesns des Pianisten! Schade nur (weil es stört!), daß “und laß dein bestes Lied erschalln” ausgelassen, und statt dessen “doch wenn du meine Lippen küßt” eine Wiederholung erforderte.
