About this user

Named first violinist of the Harrington String Quartet in 2007, Tomas Cotik tought most recently on the faculty of West Texas A&M University and was the concertmaster of Amarillo Symphony Orchestra.

As a chamber musician he has played recitals in Germany, Holland, Canada, USA, Argentina and Japan. He participated in more than 15 international music festivals in Europe and worked under the guidance of the Vermeer, Tokyo, Miami, Vogler and Endellion String Quartets, as well as notable artists, including Midori, ChristianTetzlaff, Ana Chumachenko Heinz Holliger, Leon Fleisher and the leaders of Vienna, Berlin, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland and San Francisco Symphony.

A former member and rotating principal of the New World Symphony, Tomas Cotik holds a Bachelor and Master in Music from the Freiburg University of Music in Germany and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School in Toronto. He studied with Nicolas Chumachenco and Lorand Fenyves.

He has performed with several internationally prominent conductors such as Michael Tilson Thomas, Valery Gergiev, Roberto Abbado, Yakov Kreizberg, Marin Alsop, Stephan Deneve, and Robert Spano.

Tomas is a first prize winner at the National Broadcast Music Competition in his native Argentina in 1997 and the Government of Canada Award for 2003-2005.

In the 2008-2009 season Mr. Cotik has appeared as a soloist in Amarillo, Miami and Toronto, he presented a solo violin recital and a chamber music recitals with piano in the U.S. in addition to his concert schedule with the Harrington String Quartet and a recording of the Mendelssohn Quintets with James Dunham to be released still during 2009.
