BECAUSE I CANT BE BEETHOVEN

Recently seen at ART LA chopping wood for four days, Parris Patton froze an upright piano inside a twenty seven thousand pound block of ice.

On March 24th the crate containing the piano was delivered by flatbed
and crane. Once the sculpture had been unveiled, spectators participated by bringing their cameras and eventually joining in. As the sun went down, the
performance began.

Parris hammered and torched his way through the ice until the piano was revealed. The tools chosen for this task were just sufficient enough to make breaking through
the ice a trial. Once exposed, but still encased in ice the piano was torched and charred and blackened, a final tribute to this fine instrument.
