Welcome!
My videos are basically cover versions of some of my favorite songs. As you may notice the guitar part is a bit more than just the strummed chords, I use arpeggio and solos.
Have a look at my favorites as well, you will find english and german comedy. In fact I am German but I live in France.
Musical background
I started to play the classical guitar when I was a boy. Later I learned autodidactically how to sing, to play the piano and the harmonica. Some years ago I started to take cello lessons. This is giving me access to another field of music.
Comments
As everyone on YouTube I like to get comments. Unfortunately, some of them are not at all about the music but just disrespectful. I take the liberty to delete those comments and block the user. No problem if you don't like my videos but there is no need in sending your torrents of hatred. Luckily, most of the comments I get are positive, constructive and interesting. Please keep on posting them they are a nice recompense for my efforts to record songs.
Funny Faces
Half of the comments I get on my videos concern the faces I make while singing. Some of you find them funny, ridiculous, scary or ugly. When I perform music I "put everything into it" so I don't pay special attention to the way my face looks.
So please don't judge a book by its cover too much. These videos are no job interviews they are just amateur music performances.
How to learn...
Some of you asked me how to learn the songs I posted on YouTube. Most of the songs are not too difficult for the left hand, the right hand or the voice separately; but the combination of the three is rather tricky. So for those of you who just started to play the guitar I would rather suggest to have a look at the guitar lessons on YouTube first (some of them are really good).
My videos are no guitar lessons as such they are mainly for two kinds of people: Some of you would just like to watch guitar covers that's fine. Others would like inspiration on how to play a (well-elaborated) cover version. Please have a look at the description of each song you may find tabs and explanations. The Nick Drake songs are taken in close-up allowing you to see in detail what I play. Note that the latter are as close to the original as I could but other videos of mine are quite far from it (some original versions are even without guitar).
I put some effort into learning the songs but also into recording them properly (showing in particular my hands). If you want to learn one of these songs please watch the video carefully this is one of the most convenient ways to learn a song. In fact you shouldn't need a detailed score or further explications: all is in the video. People keep asking me for scores but I usually don't write my arrangements down for me and I don't always have the time to do so for you. Anyway, if you have any questions about a particular detail of an arrangement I will try to reply.
Good luck to all the musicians out there and keep on posting good videos!
Concerts
In June 2008 I played at an open mike session in Toulouse for the first time. I was quite nervous, alone on stage with my guitar but it went all right. I played Femme Fatale, Green and Léa.
Instruments
In the videos I play a 25 years old classical guitar (my first guitar). It is a medium-class hand made model by Hanika Germany. My ukulele is not excellent, nearly as cheap as my harmonica. In contrast I am totally happy with my cello, a French one of the 19th century. And yes, there is a smiley on my cello case.
Sorry for being longish but YouTube users tend to pose always the same questions I hope that I answered some of them.
Regards - Tobasi
