Bass Place

I have been playin' the bass off and on for a long, long, long time. Bass is a great instrument, often times looked or passed over , but an integral part of any song or band. I have a simple philosophy - just play what feels and sounds good to you. Speed, awesome dexterity, and creativity all count, but creativity is most important. Get your basic skill set down and let your creativity flow. I hear guys all the time trying to play exactly like other players and you know who they are. It's all about interpretation. I know I don't play songs and riffs exactly the way the song goes, however I do play it as I hear and feel it, so it shouldn't sound the same as anyone else's interpretation. Hone your foundational skills and find your voice. Clark, Wooten, Miller and Jaco are all ridiculously great, yet all in a different way with a different voice. Once you are fundamentally sound expressing yourself on bass is very gratifying , really.
