As I said, predicting in this context means using these techniques to arrive at and decide on an answer before the correct answer is known through other channels - as opposed to using them on cherry-picked data after the fact.

The companies themself are inherently evil, if we take it to mean that they ignore harm done to others when pursuing their goals, but society has been able to trick them into doing quite a bit of good in the process of trying to do evil. :)
