The Mars Volta, which is my personal favorite is a good one to get into, along with anything by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. I also listen to the more traditional stuff like king crimson, dream theater, mahavishnu orchestra. but if you are looking for something a little darker, Crack the Skye by Mastodo...
