it could be a back projected screen. they've been around since the beginning age of cinema. which makes throwing the hammer at the screen understandable and explains the bright light.

plus the German expeditions took place several hundred miles away from most if not all of byrds expeditions and only a very small part of both expeditions cover the same area (1930's through 1955)... ty NGM and your very good maps of Antarctica. 1956 and 1957

i remember seeing this so long ago on OPBS god that was so sad when i got to the end. is there anyway to salvage any of the damaged parts? PS thanks for uploading this as its worth its weight in gold. from a historical stand point.

also little America II or III was covered over 40-60 feet in ice between Birds expedition in 1938 and his return in 1952-3 so just try the German theory.
