Thank you so much for posting this video. I just started learning Czech and was having a lot of problems with this letter. Could you post a video showing the different ways to pronounce it? It seems to be pronounced differently depending on which letters are surrounding it.

This aria shows that Carmen was not intended for a soprano. Only a lower voiced singer could make those low notes sound so beautiful.

I had no idea when I typed in "Duquesne Opera" into YouTube that I would hear this; especially with such a great high D at the end!

Top quality music as always. I certainly wouldn't have expected any less at such a talented singer's wedding!

@daiell09 Two octaves when you're amplified is not a bad range. As far as what sounds the best though, she's definitely a mezzo soprano because her D3 is very weak; the best part of her voice is towards the middle.

I just sang this last year. I wish we used this score! The second trio had the alto going down to a low D and the entire score was a step lower.

Easy here: Sumi Jo and Kristen Chenoweth definitely had the best quality. Not a completely fair comparison though, since they both regularly trained and sing as sopranos. Among the others, Nicole Scherzinger was impressive!

I never heard the original recording of it (the first time I heard it was Claramae Turner's version in the movie). What a beautiful contralto.

Definitely the best version from someone who sings popular music. So nice to hear this without too many embellishments. The song is beautiful as it is written, there's no need to do anything else with it.

@WJE37FCSM It probably is cut up to fit the time constraints, but it's obvious that she switches keys halfway through the song. Can't say I blame her since the key she started in goes up so high at the end! Still did a beautiful job!

What a lovely voice. You have great potential. Other posters have given you great advice. I'll only re-iterate watching to make sure you don't slide up to the high notes. But that will get easier as you continue training. Beautiful job!

@AryelTheSpirit I believe the highest note is a B natural, just below high C (soprano C).

Ordinarily I wouldn't care for the song or the video that much, but for some reason when they're put together it's a beautifully touching piece of art.

She has a beautiful voice but I would have preferred her to sing it the way it was written, without any extra embellishments.

The recording is old, but I can tell she was a talented contralto. She has a lovely dark tone, much darker than an actual tenor would have, and she's clearly comfortable taking her chest voice up pretty high. I've never heard a recording of hers before; I like it!

I was expecting the usual Broadway belting sound. I was pleasantly surprised to hear her voice. I hope she is able to get training to fully develop that voice; she has a lot of potential.
