Possible TPS sensor problem causing shifting problems

my ex wifes 95 t-bird did about the same thing, would be driving along at about 55 and would downshift to second, a mechanic friend of mine suggested the tps, she wouldn't let me change it cause it was really her dads car, but i bet thats what it was
