Hello, my name is Jon. I've been playing guitar and writing songs for about 5 years now. Song writing is my form of therapy, and when you hear my lyrics I think you'll be able to identify that. Music is my number one passion in life, and I think it all started when I saw A/C Slater on Saved by the Bell playing the drums in a talent show.
When I was in 6th grade I wanted to play the drums in the school band but my parents refused to buy me a drum set. The family had a claironette that had been sitting in the closet for years, and they told me that if I wanted to be in the band I would have to settle for playing it. I sucked it up, and played the claironette for 6th and 7th grade until my grandmother offered to buy me a drum set. Going into the 8th grade I switched to playing drums in the school band. I later ended up getting together with some guys from school and forming a rock band called, High Society. We played together for 7 years until we all started to come in to our own and want to go our separate ways.
After the band broke up, I picked up a guitar and taught myself the basics. From that point, I started writing my own songs, and critiquing my craft. There are so many Jon's in the music industry today, so I decided to call myself "The Wilkins Project", even though it's just me right now. My music stems from influences such as; Phil Collins, John Mayer, Ryan Adams, Don Henley, and Bruce Hornsby.
