The Wall Las Memorias Project is a non-profit organization founded over fourteen years ago. Its mission is "To preserve the AIDS monument as an inspirational tool to educate the community about cultural denial, HIV/AIDS and to promote activism and healthy living". The goal of the project is to empower the Latino community to create culturally sensitive HIV/AIDS education and prevention.
About Me:

Founded in 1993, the mission of The Wall Las Memorias Project is:
"To preserve the AIDS monument as an inspirational tool to educate the community about cultural denial, HIV/AIDS and to promote activism and healthy living".

The AIDS Monument was a vision of Richard Zaldivar, a local community activist. As the AIDS epidemic impacted families, Zaldivar believed that a public symbol would create a focal point for discussion and healing.

Over the past decade, The Wall Las Memorias Project has built support for the AIDS monument through its innovative prevention programs, leadership training and grassroots community organizing. The organization assembled a coalition of supporters that includes elected officials, community-based organizations, churches, schools, entertainers, union leaders and community members.

With strong community support for the project, local elected officials helped secure state and local public funding for the AIDS monument, making it the first publicly funded AIDS monument in the nation.

The Wall Las Memorias Project will continue to be in the forefront of the battle to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. The AIDS monument will bring awareness and remind us that the need for education remains vital to our community.
