Home of Manchester's best unsigned Rock band...
The Valentine Coup (formerly Blue Thatcher) are a Manchester based 4 piece in the classic Rock tradition. Utilising haunting Piano and Hammond sounds, combined with rock/blues/and latin edged guitar sounds backed up by a hard driving rhythm section. Lyrically the songs are about everything from old friends, to love and modern culture.
The Valentine Coup stand in a stark contrast to the seemingly millions of samey dreary Indie bands out there.
"Babysitter" & "Gentle Surprise" are taken from The Valentine Coup's debut EP 'Wayne/Gentle Surprise', recorded at the SSR & Restrike Studios in Manchester, produced by up-and-coming producer, Cormac Donnelly. Recommended by Clint Boon on his XFM radio show, it has been predicted that these four lads from Manchester will achieve great things.
Originally a blues covers band, The Valentine Coup turned their hands to song writing during the summer of 2005 and have never looked back. Defining their sound as a sublime amalgamation of Cock Rock and Tuff Jazz, with influences ranging The Beatles to Cream, from Pink Floyd to Supergrass, The Who to Brian Wilson, the lads have been setting the stage alight in venues nationwide including; The Cavern & Zanzibar - Liverpool, Joseph's Well - Leeds, The Hub - Dublin, Academy 2, The Roadhouse, Night N Day, The Bierkeller, Dry Bar, Glass and many more in their home city of Manchester.
TVC has also recently supported signed acts Ainsley Lister, NME favourites Gliss, and Phil Jupitus' recommended unsigned Whiskycats. TVC have also received support from Jonny Brown, The Cassettes, The Tides, Aron Paul and Ray Heffernan.
The Valentine Coup was first formed back in August 2003 in Uppermill, Saddleworth, when a freshly graduated Patrick O'Hare joined forces with his keyboard playing best mate Dan Hutchings. They soon recruited talented local drummer Ste James, who had been bashing the skins way back when he and Paddy were attending primary school together. Chilean bass icon Jorge Escobar completed the line up in summer 2004.
The release of their upcoming debut single will firmly cement The Valentine Coup's reputation as one of the bands to watch out for in 2007. The band are currently hard at work recording at 80 Hertz Studios, Manchester...watch this space.
Formation Date: July 01, 2003
Record Label: WhiteChileanHorseMeat Records Ltd
Label Type: Independent
Band Members: Paddy O'Hare / Dan Hutchings / Jorge Escobar / Ste James
Influences: The Beatles. Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, The Who, Brian Wilson, Supergrass etc
Sounds Like: Some have said Paddy's vocals are reminiscent of Steve Winwood, with the guitar licks of Eric Clapton, so Blind Faith should definately be considered a soundalike of The Valentine Coup. Especially since they too included Hammond Organ/keys & rich intricate drum patterns as part of their sound. TVC also incorporates elements of The Who's Rock Opera/R&B feel, with moodyness and extended instrumentals a la Pink Floyd, added to florishes of Indie, Latin, Psychedelia.
