About this user
The Toronto Consort is one of Canada's leading chamber ensembles specializing in the music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and early Baroque. Some of the country's leading early music specialists have come together to form the ensemble, whose members include both singers and instrumentalists (lute, recorder, guitar, flute, early keyboards and percussion).
Artistic Director David Fallis often calls on artists from other musical genres or disciplines to collaborate on concert programs which have dramatic as well as musical appeal. The Toronto Consort has been heard on film and television soundtracks, most notably Atom Egoyan's award-winning film The Sweet Hereafter, and all four seasons of the television series The Tudors. Fallis also led members of the ensemble in a live performance of Richard Einhorn's 1994 oratorio Voices of Light, which accompanied two screenings of Carl Theodor Dreyer's 1928 silent film masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc. This event was part of TIFF Cinematheque's Essential Cinema, the inaugural show at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
The Toronto Consort is heard frequently on Canadian and international radio and television through its many recordings and in concert broadcasts. Many of the ensemble's most successful Toronto programs have been taken on tour across Canada, the United States and Europe.
