@morgansifer Spot on! The difference between now and then in terms of both substance and style is palpable. Obviously much of the reason is due to dramatically different eras!

This is a truly excellent documentary - I remember watching it in 1993 when it first came out. She's very straight-talking isn't she - almost childlike. A naivete about her, Not dislikeable.

There are not many people in the world I dislike (especially not even having met them) but based on what I have seen of this woman in public - especially the Nick Broomfield film shown here in the UK and maybe in the USA also? - I can only conclude that I do not like this woman.

@03201952shy My comment was about a song on the album, not the title track, and I did not mention lyrics. Paul is notoriously not primarily a lyricist. I believe in the feel of a song, which transcends both melody (still very important) and lyrics (decidedly less so).

@teftae For me it's the part from 3:40 that does it! Probably my favourite nocturne.

The nocturne is beautiful but this compares unfavourably to Rubinstein's version in my opinion as the rhythm is "flawed" at times, and despite the need not to get too Romantic it should be plaued with more pathos. Rubinstein's RCA recordings are still superlative.

Dark - very under-rated. Similar to several spin-off films of 70s sitcom classics, arguably less dated and more watchable than the sitcoms themselves. The lack of audience laughter adds to the experience.

8:55-9:18 is wonderful - it seems ad-libbed and Sue/Mary aren't really acting....
