noun
1. A sophomore slump or sophomore jinx refers to an instance in which a second or sophomore effort fails to live up to the standards of the first effort. It is commonly used to refer to the apathy of students (second year of college or university) the performance of athletes (second season of play), bands (sophomore album) television shows (second seasons) and movies (sequels/prequels).
2. A rare species of the order of the Strigiformes. Because of its incredible power and perseverance in its search for food aas well as in its battle with direct opponents, this animal is highly regarded in the animal kingdom. Despite its rather small stature there have been several cases reported in which this animal was seen slaying and eating other dangerous predators (such as lions and cheetahs). The Sophomore Jinx, because of its solitary nature, prefers to dwell in secluded places and shuns contact with other animals. Therefore this animal is seldomly spotted by human eyes and is said to be impossible to captivate. The few people who have observed the animal claim that in spite of its menacing appearance, it is an animal of devastating beauty.
