@thadxxx I have thought the same thing, if only they had "shot spot" back then. If that forehand of Chris' down match point was good, could have she been the one in the final? This was a great final grand slam match showdown for the two of them, just wish the last point had ended differently.

Martina could be arrogant and sometimes immature up until the mid 80s or so. Of course, all great champions do have an aura of cockiness or arrogance, which I think is necessary to become a great champion with a "killer instinct." Nancy Lieberman didn't have a great effect on Martina's attitude...

Interesting to note that commentators regularly stated Martina did not develop a topspin backhand until her work with Renee Richards in the early 1980s, but she clearly goes for a topspin backhand passing shot at 3:46.

Unbelieveable! The shotmaking in this match will likely never be seen again. These two were beautiful to watch when they were "on." They were definitely both on this day! One of the first matches featuring Martina in her glasses.
