The conservative rate of 18 suicides a day is just the tip of the iceberg it says nothing of the innocent collateral damage, the children of those that commit suicide have an 85% chance of doing the same. Those that don't what type of family life do they have with a parent that is either depressed or self medicated. We are lead to believe the numbers are small, that only 1 to 2% of our population defends us and that is except able collateral damage, but it doesn't take into account the 30 people in each one of their lives they have a direct effect on, that makes the numbers swell to 30 to 60% of our population that is effected. One may say, "It has no effect on me", but what about the 20 to 40% (depending on whose statistics you use) that are incarcerated, the 30 to 40% that are homeless, we all pay the price one way or another, directly or indirectly. The soldiers and their loved ones pay the greatest price. Help us to help you, check out our web site thelongwalkhome.org write a letter to your congressmen, sign our petition that will be hand delivered to the President that all military personnel will get mandatory counseling prior to discharge to help turn this tide to a broken country.
