It is true ancient Iranians used the word 'Aryan' for themselves, but so did others.
The word Aryan is in ancient Vedic and Buddhist scripture, and terms related to 'Aryan' were used by the ancient Greeks to describe those of noble birth or conduct (arkhe, aristos, aristokratos).
Aryan was a word used by archaeologists to describe Indo-Europeans and their culture until it fell out of favour during the second world war.
