Office Theology
You know how every once in a while you get to discuss some theological matter with somebody at the office. It is this little slice of awkwardness that forms the backdrop of the Office Theology series. It is a simple concept. Take one verse, commonly misinterpret it, then correct it with sound exegesis and logical systematic theology, casting aside evangelical play pretties all along the way.
John MacArthur: Conditional Grace to You
A demonstration of the self-contradictory nature of John MacArthur's Lordship soteriology. MacArthur's "new birth" equals "total commitment" interpretation of John 3 is astonishingly bad. Perhaps more telling is how many so-called sovereign grace theologians swallow it hook, line and sinker without so much as batting an eye. Grace theology is truly at low tide in this Laodicean age. It's a good thing God's children truly are saved by grace, because if we were saved by an understanding of grace - MacArthur and his seemingly impenetrable cadre of antinomy-Calvinists would find themselves riding shotgun with Bon Scott.
John Piper: Ludicrous Atonement
Piper's view of sovereign regeneration, where God's role is decisive and our role is ESSENTIAL, is ludicrous. One wonders if Piper has ever read Genesis 11/12, Acts 9/10, Job, or any of a number of other biblical examples where his ersatz ESSENTIAL element is nowhere to be found. When I hear Piper preach this nonsense, I must admit that I am seized with the urge to by him an $8 haircut and force him to write "I am not ESSENTIAL in regeneration" 500 times on the blackboard. Then again, when you can use Millard Erikson's definition of "unlimited atonement" as a legitimate, sovereign grace definition of "limited atonement," you may be well beyond the point of correction by conventional means. Such is the hyper-emotive and illogical theology of the inimitable John Piper.
Popular Theological Errors
Doctrinal error abounds under the banner of Christianity. Whether it is Billy Graham providing a four step approach to the new birth, CCC giving Four Spiritual Laws, or the Southern Baptist Seminary butchering the gospel, you don't have to look very hard for very long to run into the shameless peddling of crass theological errors by the very most popular individuals and institutions working under the rubric of Christianity. In this playlist, we endeavor to expose these errors and those that promote them, in the hope of providing food for those who prefer the strong meat of the word of God to the garnished squalor served up by the hallowed institutions and exalted teachers of evangelicalism.
Street Theology
Life is hard in the streets. This no-nonsense approach to theology rejects antinomy and double-speak in favor of the right division of the word of God. You can sell crazy somewhere else, we're all stocked up here in the streets, but if you've got a hunger and thirst for the unvarnished truth and are sick and tired of the sappy, sentimental, intellectual pigmy-ism that permeates modern evangelicalism, then you'll find this approach to systematic theology a welcomed change, that exposes the Arminian for failure to use the spiritual mind, and the Calvinist for failure to use it properly.
