About this user
DJ Ernie G - With 28 + years in the art of spinning records, Dj Ernie G. rings true to the term "veteran dj". He hails from the "Southbay" area of Los Angeles where he was born & raised. Growing up in the 80's, the music, breakdancing and graffiti is what he was into and was pivotal in molding his style today. In 1983 a Dj from Uncle Jams Army invited him to join in on some of their jam sessions. It was there that he discovered his lifetime passion when he touched a turntable and mixer for the first time. He was introduced to artist such as Afrika Bambaataa, Midnight Star, Devo, RUN DMC, Cabaret Voltaire, Malcolm Mclaren, Arthur Baker, and the Sex Pistols to name a few but there was one radio station that influenced him the most and also put electro funk and Hip Hop on the West Coast map AM 1580 KDAY.
He kept his ear to the street for the most cutting-edge music and digging for the right records was pivotal in setting himself apart from the rest. He would frequent spots such as Magic Disc, VIP records to the legendary Roadium where such artist as Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube and Dj Tony A, would perform often. It was there that he obtained their legendary mixed tapes to further his skills.
Between 1989 and 1990 is when he made a transition from electro funk, Hip Hop, Freestyle & 80's Disco to House & Techno. Being involved in the early rave scene that was forming in Los Angeles was a pivotal point in his life. Wanting to take his skills to the next level and put his name on the map, he started to Dj and produce his own events which ultimately gave him the credit of being the top Dj and one of the creators of the Southbay party scene. Whether it was rocking house parties, dance clubs, warehouse events, or pulling in over a thousand party people every Saturday night at the infamous Freak Boutique, Ernie G was determined to make his mark.
Another pivotal point was when he landed a job at Hollywood's two most famous record stores, D.M.C. Records & Street Sound Records on Melrose Ave. This boosted him to new levels landing him gigs & resident spots at The Crush Bar, The Palace, Florentine Gardens & The Arena to name a few. He went on to rock the crowds from Los Angeles to San Francisco, Mexico, San Diego, New York and his mixes have even rocked the airwaves on Power Tools and 96.7 The Vibe.
He's opened up for Paul Van Dyk which led to sharing the stage with some of the world's top Dj's - Richard Vision, Dj Vice, Bad Boy Bill, Eric Dlux, Eric Cubiche, R.A.W, Oscar Da Grouch, DJ Enrie, DJ LaRok, and Marques Wyatt to name a few. In the mid 2000's he re-invented himself by joining forces with KDAY 93.5 FM and "Club Sugar" in downtown Long Beach which he co-produced. To take club-goers back to his roots he brought legendary acts such as Rodney O & Joe Cooley Hi-C, AMG, Paper Boy, Second II None, and Julio G "The OG KDAY Mixmaster" to perform.
Today you can catch Ernie G. rocking the turntables at the hottest clubs to events for Pierre
Cardin, Christian Dior at
Macy's and Nordstrom, to the NAMM Show for Marathon Pro & Dj Tech and The SEMA Las Vegas for Giovanna Rims. He also holds down monthly residencies for The Dunkxchange Sneaker Show in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix and Las Vegas.
