Not nearly as funny (or cute) as Nathan Lane in the role. From my recollection, the play has now been opened up. I recollect there being only two people and only a single set, but it's been decades.

I enjoyed this performance very much. Your voice has a very interesting timbre ... A very difficult Lied. My main suggestion would be that your accompanist and you need more rubato. There is almost no room for expressiveness here. I hope you continue.

@Wally773MTG The irony of the text is that the text contrasts the humble circumstances of Christ's birth and his exalted being as the Son of God. The text refers to how little God regards the earthly splendor ... but complete with trumpet fanfare and florid singing!

Stupendous. Can you post the entire concert? I did find it on another web site in its entirety, but not the lovely HD quality you offer here. I am not the biggest Dessay fan, or the biggest Haïm fan, but I found this incredibly touching and the pacing immaculately judged.

Perfect voice for this repertory. Your French is so much better than your German ... which is remarkable because French is so much harder to pronounce. Wonderfully expressive approach to these subtle songs.

If his timbre weren't so close to Fischer-Diekau's, it would be easier to overlook the fact that he's barking his way through this aria as DFD did so many times. Also, few performances manage to capture the irony of the words and their musical setting.

It's an interesting video commentary but for music I can't stand this. DFD's coloratura is truly awful, he sounds too militaristic and not in the least joyful, and his intonation is all over the map especially early on. Yuck.
