actually this is paul stacey, english multi instrumentalist and producer who worked with chris robinson on his two newearthmud albums and stepped in the black crowes as a fill in when marc left in 2005 or 2006

he is a derivative meaning somebody before him played slide but nothing else, the execution of the sounds the subtleties the vocal quality of what he plays makes him one of the most original players in the history. nobody made guitar sound like that yet.

it's because you usually avoid playing anything on the first beat, or you 'drop' the first beat - hence - the 'one drop' :)
