Kenya
Kenya has the quintessential African landscape with an abundance of arid grasslands and large wildlife parks. But Kenya also boasts tropical beaches, coral reefs, and ancient cities. The Indian Ocean laps Kenya's southeastern border, Lake Victoria its southwestern corner.
There are roughly 70 tribal groups in Kenya. Though less than ten percent of the land is arable, approximately 80 percent of Kenyans depend on agriculture for their livelihood.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh is a small nation on the Bay of Bengal that is surrounded by India. While the country may be poor economically — Bangladeshis earn an average income of $260 a year — it is rich in culture. Bangladesh is 83 percent Muslim and is one of the world's most densely populated countries with approximately 2,160 people per square mile.
Roughly 75 percent of the labor force works in agriculture or related jobs. Skills such as handicraft production - rugs, purses, pottery, jewelry and the like - provide much-needed supplemental income.
India
With a population of one billion, India is certainly a society of complex structures, diverse groups, and strong religious beliefs. Although Buddhism was founded in India, more than 80 percent of Indians are Hindu; roughly ten percent are Muslim.
India won independence from Britain in 1947 after the nonviolent resistance led by Mohandas Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. India's landscape includes the Himalaya Mountains — the highest on earth — and the Ganges Plain. Industries include textiles and steel, though rice farming and handicraft production are important trades as well.
Burkina Faso
Landlocked in the geographical sense, Burkina Faso is by no means constrained in creativity. More than 60 ethnic groups contribute to the country's vibrant cultural and social climate. Burkinab's celebrate artistic expression through annual festivals for art and film.
The majority of Burkinab's are subsistence farmers, but in the small, arid country less than 10 percent of the land can be farmed without irrigation. The country's main industries include agriculture, textiles, and mining, but Burkina Faso is best known for its music, dance, and theater.
