I've been doing this in my own training. Works very well and is consistent with other sword arts. standing on the ball of the feet and raising the heel also allows you to provide extra push into the hips if you want to make a cut without a passing step.

@devoidchess No they were not. Swords are meant to cut flesh, not steel. Euro swords that were intended for cutting cut just as well as a Katana. You do not use a sword to cut armour, period.

I have always wondered if these chi masters are so good, why they have to use such contrived tricks? If you want to show how Chi gives you super strength, then go to a gym and show us how Chi energises your squats instead of some silly parlour trick any semi competent magician can replicate.

That video has a guy who knows nothing about swords using two wallhangers, The longsword is of poor quality and too springy, whereas the Katana was a 'Katana shaped object". Both are cheap mass produced replicas and hardly proper representatives of their weapons.

Its a stick fighting art. And the idea that the point beats the edge is a conceit of modern fencers and does not have a basis in reality

Twirling a double edged sword is a bad idea in any case, because you can easily cut yourself. With swords, cuts naturally move from a guard to another guard with no extra movement.

That being said, the european masters advocated constant movement and switching of guards rather like a boxer.

Why don't these so called Chi Masters use their magic powers to do something useful, like rescue people from burning buildings or teach police how to subdue violent criminals without having to hurt them? They don't because Chi energy is silly magical nonsense and chi masters are a fraud.
