Great piece of footage! The terrible tragidy with the Mk1 was the destructive corrosion caused by 'dissimilar metal syndrome' and the fatigue cracking in the wings which led to a Valiant crash, and subsequent premature scrapping of all Valiants. A terrible shame, but Vickers learned a lot from it.

The Last Vanguard
The last complete Vanguard (merchantman) GAPEP successfully fires up its engines at Brooklands Museum on 14th October 2006

The Electra / Orion was a Lockheed aircraft and had Alison engines.
The Vanguard has Rolls Royce Tyne engines which were rated at 5550 hp each. I think the only American aircraft to have Tynes was the Transall. The props made them very noisey.

I think Vanguards, VC 10s, 3 One Elevens and a few Viscounts were built at Weybridge. Because of the very short runway, the aircraft departed on the maiden flight with minimal fuel, and positioned into Wisley, Vickers test airfield which had a very long runway (closed, but still in existance toda...

Didn't see that as a particularly hard landing. I've flown on many 727s in the last 25 years in an engineering role. This landing is average considering the conditions, and probably wouldn't even warrant comment at the time between the crew. Nice bit of footage though!
