Tampa General is a 1,004-bed, private not-for-profit hospital and one of the most comprehensive medical facilities in West Central Florida serving a dozen counties with a population in excess of 4 million. TGH serves as the primary teaching affiliate for the USF College of Medicine and is the area's only level I trauma center and one of just four burn centers in Florida. With five medical helicopters we are able to transport critically injured or ill patients from 23 surrounding counties to receive the advanced care they need. TGH is home to one of the leading organ transplant centers in the country, having performed more than 6,000 adult solid organ transplants, including the state's first successful heart transplant in 1985. Our level III NICU (level III is the highest rating available), is one of just 12 Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Centers designated by the State of Florida to deliver the highest level of medical care to premature and sick infants and to women with high-risk pregnancies. The 59-bed Tampa General Rehabilitation Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and designated as a State of Florida Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Center for both adult and pediatric patients.

Tampa General Hospital is proud to be named to U.S. News & World Report's list of "America's Best Hospitals" 2010-11 in six specialties - diabetes and endocrinology, geriatrics, heart and heart surgery, kidney disorders, orthopedics, and urology. TGH was awarded Magnet status for excellence in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Magnet Award recognizes hospitals that demonstrate excellence in nursing philosophy and practices, adherence to national standards for improving patient care, leadership, and sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity.
