@sameenic Not very. Latin ballroom Mambo moved away from the original Cuban mambo, (which has a much less exaggerated hip movement). I understand that Cuban mambo can only really be found in Cuba - you'll find a very nice demonstration if you search for "cuban mambo conjunto folklorico nacional"

@MrMegamajor They may well be 3 times "Latin American champions", but this isn't cuban salsa. It's good, and it's very impresive by latin ballroom standards, but being an expert in latin ballroom dancing in no way makes you an expert in cuban salsa :)

"Street" dancers step backwards/forwards on 3 and 7 because it allows their momentum to keep moving fluidly through the "slow" of the "quick -quick-slow" steps. Closing on 3 and 7 leads to a jerkier dance.

Great song. This is the speed the writers play it at - it's a great tempo to chew on the words of the verses and what they mean. Most of the times I hear people play it, its played way too fast!

@koongfoo To NY dancers, "Salsa On2" is just "Salsa" - on1 is the weird version for them :-)

(I'm sure most dancers will work out pretty quickly that the timing is different from on1...)
