The UK is facing a huge energy challenge. We need low carbon energy, it needs to be from reliable sources, and it needs to be affordable. E.ON believes that everyone should be involved and have the chance to ask questions, and be informed and consulted. That's what this Talking Energy channel is for.

As well as giving E.ON's viewpoint, we have asked three independent organisations to put forward their own opinions so you can hear all sides of the debate before letting us know your thoughts. We're really keen to hear what you have to say so please feel free to get involved by leaving a comment or posting your own video.

Microgeneration seems like it could be at least part of the long term solution does it not? Eon how are you going to make this accessible for the man on the street? I dont have thousands of pounds to spend on this but surely you should be helping people understand what it is and how we can use it?

Technology for clean coal hasn't been tested on a large scale commercial pilot project. By the time clean coal technology is implemented it will be too late and up until that point coal fired powerstations will be burning one of the dirtiest fossil fuels on the planet for 20+ years.

You talk energy - dirty energy.

@Mr WopWop. Thanks for your comments. We were looking at the possibility of building a clean coal IGCC power station in Lincolnshire that would crack coal into its constituent parts before piping off the CO2 and running what effectively becomes a gas-fired power stations on hydrogen. We had fairly advanced plans but then the Government announced that funding for clean coal would only be available for post combustion technologies and so we shifted our focus to Kingsnorth. Its still something that interests us but, technologically, its very difficult. You might be interested in the research that we're doing into different technologies which you can find on eonenergy.com

@Mikeyo1234, great comment. For us an honest and open energy debate is something which has been badly needed for some time and after calling for one we thought why not make it happen ourselves? As a responsible energy company we see it as incredibly important to give people a place to have their say and to debate the future of energy in the UK. Of course there are people who disagree with the way we do things but that's the point - we don't have all the answers and we want people to challenge us on the issues that matter. IInterested to hear your thoughts on this conundrum. Renewable energy sources such as wind, tidal, wave and solar power, although expensive to establish are long term relatively cheap to maintain when evaluated in parallel to fossil fuel energy production, particularly total cost accounting. The mining, transportation and extraction of fossil fuels contributes massively to cost and therefore justification of prices and damaging the environment other emissions, soil erosion and destablisation. This means converting to clean, green, energy the raw materials of which cannot be owned could create huge job losses, scaling back of infrastructure and a loss of profits for E-On as you will not be able to justify your huge profit margins. It is not 'cost effective' for E-On to convert to green energy, how many people does it take to run a coal fired power station and how many for a wind farm of equal wattage output?

I want free, clean energy in the form of h20 engines/motors/fuel! I don't want carbon taxes, global government, eugenical, genocidal policies!

A greedy money grabbing company is hardly the right entity to be debating energy issues. You are biased. So many companies now are trying to look green but it's only to look good to the public and to save money.

e.g. Tesco saving on packaging = more money saved by them = more profit for them (and this all happens making them look green). But in reality they leave refridgerators open... so a little less packaging is a drop in the ocean.

Most companies are just worried about token gestures to look good.

@ Number1BadBoyInnit - thanks for your comment. Really glad you like what we're trying to do. For us it's important that each energy source is used as part of a balanced energy mix so that we can keep energy affordable, reliable and lower carbon. Are you for other types of energy too or just nuclear power?
