About this user
BiographyWill'em Gator is a self-taught composer, guitarist and electronic music programmer. His futurist background allows him to pour big basses onto highly distinctive grooves crafted by his very personal views on sound and beat research.
His incomparable style is the result of endless battles and lovemaking with his instrumental studies, frequent travels and eclectic influences. What comes out of this recording is a unique blend of acid house bass kicks, downtempo beats with junglesque phat basslines, oriental moods and deep spaces painted by orchestral instruments as if this opus was a movie meant to be broadcasted straight to the back of your brain.
Will'em Gator started programming at 15 with whatever machine he could lay his hands on (amiga and the like), and carried on adding better equipment to his artillery, even though the resulting musical processes were seldom released as our man was already off planning new adventures.
The self-produced album "Touch me and i will save you" was an avant-goût of "Hong Kong Express": each of its tracks was conceived and recorded in a different city and the sessions were joined in on by an eclectic congregation of musicians, many of whom our hero met on his travels.
In "Hong Kong Express" fat basslines create Berliner style patterns pulsating through landscapes of oriental instruments such as the Erhu, Zheng, Sanxian and swarms of Chinese percussions. While you listen to these tracks, you'll be able to see and feel the places, faces and ambience of the streets in Hong Kong and of the smothering cubby-hole in Kowloon where they were conceived and almost completed.
So far Will'em Gator has played more than a hundred acoustic, electric and electronic live sets (on his own or with acts like HC-B, Pornography, Davincisdrama, Black Box Nation, Brown Eyes...) in his temporary homelands (London, Milan, Rome, Catania, Budapest).
"Hong Kong Express" is a unique recording, animated by its own magic.
