Where, once upon-a-time, from June 17th, 2008 to November's bittersweet election day, marriage licenses were issued to same-sex couples.
January 10, 2009 -- March Against DOMA -- gather at County Administration Building at 10am for a pre-rally, then step-off for marching at 11am. We'll be marching a 2 mile route past the Manchester Grand Hyatt, which the local hotel union and the LGBT community are currently boycotting. Then we'll continue up 1st Avenue and back down Ash Street to County Adminsitration. There will be a second rally after the march, with more great speakers!
This event is one that comes in many forms with rallies in almost every major city mixed with signature drives throughout the nation.
Prop 8 Protests in San Diego
Following the passage of ballot proposition 8, spontaneous protests have broken out all over the state of California.
In San Diego, 10,000 marched from Hillcrest to North Park and then rallied in Morley Field on Saturday, November 8th.
On Sunday morning, November 9th, 200 people protested outside of the Mormon Temple just off the I-5 at Nobel Drive.
Word spread about the these protests and another march and rally was scheduled for Saturday, November 15th, as part of a National Protest Against Prop 8.
The NPAP8 crowd gathered at 10:00 in Balboa Park, on 6th Avenue at Upas Street. At 10:30 am PST, simultaneous with 300 cities in all 50 states and 6 countries, the march started off down 6th Avenue to Broadway and through downtown. 20,000 protesters then walked up Harbor Drive to the courthouse that issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples and married them through election day.
More protests are planned. Stay Tuned.

Cleve Jones vs. Bill Clinton at Manchester Grand Hyatt
SAN DIEGO — Former President Bill Clintons refusal to honor a boycott of the Manchester Hyatt hotel supported by gay leaders and labor unions has fueled outrage in both communities.
A petition calling on Clinton to move his speech was launched Friday morning by the Courage Campaign and had gathered 26,537 signatures within 24 hours.
On Thursday, President Clintons spokespeople told the Associated Press that Clinton would not be honoring the boycott and would go forward with the paid speech.
President Clintons refusal to honor the boycott of the Manchester Hyatt undermines the LGBT communitys struggle for justice, said Cleve Jones, one of the signers of the open letter and the founder of the NAMES Project/AIDS Memorial Quilt.
