The Italians think we Germans are world champions at reserving sunbeds with a towel and declaring them our own. I once read it in a newspaper while in Tuscany and it pretty much embarrassed me, lol.

This whole "sun loungers war" is hilarious, sury. I have witnessed it myself a dozen times when I was on holiday in Spain. Of course, it's a bit exaggerated by people sometimes, especially by the British. But basically it's true. The Brits regard this whole thing as a direct continuation of the Battle of Britain. So, if a sun lounger is covered with a British towel, that sun lounger actually IS England [or Britain for that matter]! It's not merely about occupying some adequate sun lounger at the pool; it's about defending one's national rights and waving his country's flag for all to see! ;p

Sun lounger wars are the continuation of politics by other means, so to speak.
