Other than being an aspiring 22 year old filmmaker and entrepreneur, I guess my quest is to find out who I am.
I suppose it would be best to say I'm Canadian. But what's that? To complicate things further, my Father has a status card. 100% Indian blood? No, he has some Scandinavian mixed in there too. My mom is a mix of French and Belgian, which makes a fine white skin breed, which I inherited.
A lot of people hear this and they say, "Oh... so you're Metis!" Well actually, no I'm not. Well that gets tricky too. There is Metis on my dad's side, where my grandfather is a Calder whose family is a mixture of Orkney (Scottish) and Indian. But since my grandmother is status, my father is also status, thus ending the line of Metis in my family.... to a point.
So where does this leave me? Well the government has invented a nice little classification called Non-Status Indian, which I technically fall under. This is the same government that says to be considered Indian you must be Status, so you can imagine I'm a little confused.
