Parked cars on both sides, so expect the worst (which you did).
Just got my licence and first bike. Its a BMW F800 with ABS. I have ABS in the car, why would I not have it on a bike? In a situation like yours, hard on the anchors. 30mph stops can be done in the wet in 3 car lengths.
