How much anime must one know to be considered a vet? XD I know many that surpass me by far. I also have very seldom rewatched series.

I've been on vacations all month, but I'm starting next month the spring semester. :( It was good while it lasted. I'll probably also have to wait for springbreak to get addicted to anything else.

Have you watched Monster? Now THAT is the series I consider the best thriller ever. I bet you'll love it.

I've also become a Gintamard. Gintama is THE BEST THING EVER!!!! It's now tied to CG and One Piece in my number one.

I'm reading 07-Ghost now, and it's intriguing. I love how the dynamics are so much like Pandora Hearts. I love puzzling manga. X3

I hope you don't believe I'm judging you for liking it better, though. I can actually see why some would prefer DN.

That is all my opinion without even thinking about Code Geass. It's not like I compare everything to it...But if I were to compare it with Death Note, I'd say it's not surprising to conclude CG is found better by the majority. It's not because of the CLAMP character designs, the fanservice, the mecha or the fact that it is more round about by including more genres. The twists were far more unpredictable. The showdown between Lelouch and Schneizel felt much more like a battle between two brains. Lelouch's charisma as character shadows Light's by a far cry. Since the very beginning, intense situations show Lelouch's very clever as he plans minutely AND manages to turn tables to his favor when he finds himself in disadvantage within a short lapse of time. However, this fact is not what the plot revolves around, unlike with Death Note, where Light's stated intelligence is key.

I'm not saying it did not have any good things. 8/10 is still good. L, Near and Ryuk were interesting to follow. I also liked Matsuda. It did manage to give a question as to what justice is, but not as well-done as it is said. It was quite entertaining, but the fact that this series tries badly to appear as more than it really is plays against it.

I am aware that Light's character was not meant to be "very liked", but that is a very dangerous double-edge sword that requires carefulness and skill. Few authors can pull this off and still get the character to earn the audience. Death Note DOES manage this to an extent, but I don't believe the plot compensated for it as well as it should have. Killing L was the author's worst mistake as that was what somewhat balanced it.

Indeed, Light is one of those main characters in anime history that has made it hard for me to watch the series. He was smart, alright, but not a genius as the story attempts to make him seem. L was significantly more intelligent. This did not feel as "battle of intellect and strategy between two genii" as the fans claim. It was all about who had more information and who could manipulate it to trick the other. In the end, it made sense L was at disadvantage since he did not learn about Death Note since the beginning as Light had, not to mention that when he did learn of it, Light added extra rules. Then he was glad he finished L, claiming he was better, concluding that he was the one who was correct. That logic is stupid.

While the stunts that were pulled were entertaining for sure, it felt all the time as if the story was trying to persuade me that Light is the smartest being alive using those deliberately circuitous plans, and I did not appreciate that.

My art is about plot and execution rather than visuals. The art by Madhouse studio was slick to say the least, but that is not enough to win me over.

Light aside, the other characters were not developed satisfactorily. They barely seemed to serve any purpose other than to establish how "brilliant" the protagonist is by making themselves look as stupid as possible, except L, who was the only character I found intriguing. Misa and Takada were ANNOYING with their idiotic cat fight about someone as worthless as Light.

Really? Too bad, but I understand that not everything can be of everyone's like.

I actually JUST watched Death Note. XD Kept putting it off forever... In the end, I am disappointed. I'd give it an 8/10 at best.
