St. Stephen's University offers world-class academic programs in Arts and Ministry that are interactive, international, inter-cultural, and interdenominational in scope. While engaging in challenging academic work, students are also given the opportunity to live at the centre of a Christian learning community. This experience of community—of living, studying, worshipping, cooking, cleaning, and traveling together—broadens students' worldviews.

Our study abroad programs provide students with the opportunity to see first-hand the locations, cultures, artifacts, works of art, and architecture that they have been studying in the classroom. Faculty and students deliver lectures on-site at various historical and cultural locations allowing students to, for example, learn about Julius Caesar as they sit in the Roman Forum! Students who have participated in these trips constantly comment on the invaluable life, character building, and worldview enhancing experience they have gained through travelling in community, and interacting with so many diverse cultures.

SSU is located in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada. It is perched on a hill overlooking the St. Croix River, the international border between Canada and the United States; where, four hundred years ago, French explorers established the first European settlement in North America north of Florida--just a short distance from the SSU campus today.

The University was founded in 1975, when an about-to-be condemned building was purchased in downtown St. Stephen. Gradually, with tender loving care, what was once considered one of the ritziest hotels on the Eastern Seaboard has been brought back to life as Park Hall, the centrepiece of SSU's campus. In the Italian Renaissance Revival style, with an impressive interior four-storey stairway of black walnut, the building dates from the time of Canadian Confederation in 1867. This is our home away from home --the place from which we go out to travel the world, and the place to which we return each semester.
