By the way, it isn't typical to see a big flame coming out the top. There are two occasions where this might occur. 1) using it at high altitude, where the weight of the atmosphere is lower, so flames are higher, or 2) too much fuel in the burner pot due to fuel rail not being level.

The wicks should be inserted and cut off at the lip when the wicks are in their highest position, not their lowest. This way, when lowered, they will go down inside the tubes so the flame will go out. If inserted the way you show in the video, you won't be able to extinguish the flame.
