Santa Fe Reporter staff writer Dave Maass journeys to Las Vegas, NM, to interview Mu'ina Arthur, the mother of Karl Chamberlain, the only Texas death-row inmate (as of posting) with an execution date.

Too many liberal minds here. To the person who keeps saying, "We have NO right", you have NO right to claim anything. You are not a body of the government, you are not even close to an affiliate of it. To those that believe capital punishment is a horrendous solution, so are radical surgery and chemotherapy to cancer. If you do not find a cure for the disease, then you will put sham on all those who lost their lives from murderers. My friend's wife was murdered by the same type of people you choose to protect. How does that affect you? The shield and veil capital punishment opponents cast on murderers is the disease. By allowing murderers to live easily via a life sentence (6 months judgment with a possibility for 12 years of parole), soils the very nature of human dignity.

Even if one of our relatives or we ourselves would be the victim, we have NO right to support capital punishment. We have NO right to tell a person when his life will end despite the fact this person might have done it himself to another person. We have NO right to tell the suspect's loved ones when he's going to be killed despite the fact he might have killed himself. We have absolutely NO right at all. Supporters of the death penalty might as well ask themselves if they would still support it if it were themselves we put on that table. Moreover, the saying goes: those who don't have the capital get the punishment. I'm glad I have a heart and a mind and I'm very pleased to see you guys, Students against the death penalty, stand up for what's right.
