i have been involved in martial arts since 1969. over the years i have trained in arts such as hapkido, judo, wrestling, shorei ryu and isshin ryu karate, filipino kali, escrima, arnis, shoot fighting, western boxing, tae kwon do, wing chun, kang nei chin kung fu and jkd. i hold a 1st dan in oikiru ryu goshin jitsu, 3rd dan in sun do sul, red belt black stripe in itf tae kwon do, green belt in wtf tae kwon do, blue sash in kang nei chin kung fu, and am a 3rd gen jkd instructor under the late ed pagan. in the mid eighties i formed my own teaching curriculum which i call "kevin hand's creative martial arts" and having been teaching privately under that name since then. i find all martial arts fascinating and do not limit myself to any one particular style when it comes to learning and growing. i have a large collection of books and videos on various art and consider myself to be a perpetual student, even when teaching others. if i cant learn from my students then i wouldnt be a very good instructor. i like to keep an open mind about all styles and philosophies of the arts.
i am an artist as well as martial artist. i use the airbrush and paintbrush, working primarily with acrylic paint. i have painted several bruce lee paintings as well as some animal and fantasy paintings. figure, portrait, and fantasy, horror, sci fi are my favorite subjects.
i am currently 50 years old living in illinois. recently i have started learning moy yat ving tsun from a friend, along with the other styles he has learned.
