Steve Madden Music Presents: PARADE OF LIGHTS

434 views 3 weeks ago
The Steve Madden Music crew had so much fun running around DUMBO in Brooklyn, NY for our photo shoot with PARADE OF LIGHTS - A group of young, vibrant, talented musicians from Los Angeles, CA whose personalities are as infectious as their synthy hooks.

Check out their EP, "Golden" and you can try to not get the feel-good, electro pop tracks such as "We're the Kids" & "Golden" stuck in your head all day: http://bit.ly/SMM-GOLDENxiT...

ABOUT PARADE OF LIGHTS:

Combining equal parts rock, new wave, and shoegaze, Parade of Lights create a unique blend of 80's influenced, anthem-ready indie pop. Wearing its influences proudly on its proverbial sleeve, the band's hook-laden tracks are addictive and infectious - its sound as familiar as it is strikingly unique. Formed in 2010 in LA by Anthony Improgo and Ryan Daly, the two spent the next two years focused on perfecting the band's lineup and live show, performing with everyone from Imagine Dragons to the Neighbourhood, and self-releasing their first EP Born To Live, Born To Love (2012). With the band roster solidified, they released "We're The Kids" in summer 2013 which immediately rocketed into the top 10 of Sirius Alt Nation.

Featuring "We're The Kids" and "Golden" the band's latest EP "Golden" is out now with their debut album due out later this year. Show less

Steve Madden Music got to spend the day and chat with Detroit native Jessica from Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas (http://JessicaHernandez.net) at Mary Meyer and Friends Vintage (http://MaryMeyerClothing.com) in Bushwick, Brooklyn to talk all things music & fashion. While shopping around, we found out that Jessica customizes her tour merch from vintage pieces she finds on the road and that she used to work at Steve Madden back in the day!

Living in Chicago at the time and going to school for fashion, Jessica quit it all for music. She met her bandmates when she moved back home to Detroit and came up with the band name from her drummer who had a 70's Delta. As far as musical influences go, Jessica loves everything from Gypsy music to Dolly Parton and Wanda Jackson. You can hear those influences in her sometimes dark but poppy songs songs mixed her instantly recognizable vocals.

After some shopping fun, we were treated to a stoop session with Jessica and her five man Deltas perform some songs from their debut album Secret Evil, out August 19th.

When she was 14, Tori Kelly started writing songs in the bedroom of her Southern California home. Within years she began sharing those songs online, and quickly won over Internet audiences with her sweetly soaring vocals, graceful guitar-playing, and knack for blending breezy melodies with boldly heart-on-sleeve lyrics.

A musical purist who began singing at age three and learned to play drums and guitar by the time she was 16, Kelly forgoes over-the-top production in favor of laying bare her natural musicianship and ingenuity in songwriting. The daughter of two musicians, Kelly was raised with a deep love of music. While she lists artists as eclectic as Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Jeff Buckley, and Maxwell as key inspirations, Kelly credits her early exposure to gospel singers like Crystal Lewis and J. Moss as a crucial influence on her moving and masterful vocal work.

Upon taking part in her first singing competition at age six, Kelly decided to dedicate her life to making music. For much of her early- to mid-teen years, Kelly focused on honing her songwriting and experimenting with self-production with the help of her computer's GarageBand app. During that time she began to gain a globe-spanning following through YouTube, thanks to her faithful posting of inspired covers and original songs that showcased her ethereal vocals and subtly confident guitar-playing.

In the past year alone, Kelly has sold out shows in several major cities, headlined a nine-city sold-out U.S. tour, and supported Jewel and Ed Sheeran on tour. She has also graced the pages of Elle, Glamour, and Teen Vogue. But for Kelly, the fact that her evolution from Internet sensation to "It girl" took years of effort is a major point of pride.

ALEXZ JOHNSON Play

Alexz's songs have been featured in the likes of Instant Star, Degrassi (including the theme song for season 11), Pretty Little Liars, and The L.A. Complex. Johnson's success in TV and film as young adult (Instant Star, So Weird, Final Destination 3) not only landed her a Gemini Award (Canadian Emmy) in 2008, but also helped her garner a massive grassroots fan-following. Without the support of a label, her fans have financed many of her musical endeavors, most recently raising over $50,000 on PledgeMusic to help Alexz produce her newest EP, HEART.

With a unique soulful folk-pop sound and passionate songwriting style, its no wonder Alexz Johnson has been called a modern day Stevie Nicks with the power of Bruce Springsteen and vocal soul of Adele.
