About Me:

Stephen Paul Furlong (born in Margate, Kent on 17th October 1970) presents himself as a sincere and honest singer / songwriter.

The complexity of his life's journey has inspired him to define a style identified by its vulnerable simplicity - the transformation "from chrysalis to butterfly" has taken Steve 20 years to actualise.

His musical expression is almost unrecognisable since his active phase as a member of the Thanet music scene between 1988- 1995 with 'The Playing Field'. At that time, feeling disillusioned and burnt out, Steve walked away from being a musician.

Having realised that musical and personal events over the years have brought him to this place called "now", he has returned with fresh vigour and a level of maturity previously unseen. Having absorbed influences of our time including Damien Rice, David Gray, James Blunt and those of the past -- Lennon, Neil Young -- all have further inspired him to evolve from being part of a band towards his predominantly acoustic sound; his primary instruments being layered acoustic guitars with occasional piano.

His music is sincere and pure and in his words 'No longer carries the burden of trying to write, compose or play in order to please others.' Never having received formal music tuition; Steve is not tied to the conventions of writing which may hinder creativity and freely expresses 'nothing other than what he is'.

Equipped with the joys and suffering of life to inspire his artistic gift, Steve is writing music that cuts to the bone. His raw acoustic style conveys feelings from deep within his heart which anyone who has experienced painful loss, sadness and a hunger for tenderness can connect with. His seductive charm combined with his intuitive gift for melodic nuances and his distinctive voice strike a particular resonance with the listener's vulnerability.

Steve's vehicle for making a difference in this world is without a doubt his music; his acoustic guitar with lyrics strikingly conveyed. Not only is it a necessary expression for him, it equally provides us with a language from which we can begin to make sense of our own feelings.

Thank You for the Neil Young video! So many amazing things sit locked away in the archives & vaults of media companies - images & videos from over 100 years of human experience, yet they produce junk for entertainment profit. Sad, really. But this is changing.

Sorry Steve, I have to correct my previous comment. The Hollies were at Golders Green and I now realise this was Shepherds Bush...both were BBC concerts....both brilliant and precious! Linda.

I think you are BRILLIANT! I haven't found one person who does not love your music Mr. Furlong. You will get thru these down times, and look back on these days once in awhile and probably just smile, that you never gave-up. Oh please, never stop your beautiful music. It's a gift. One that I'll gladly accept thru your singing.
Take care and write anytime. ANYTIME!
