I think this was the best of the many band leader movies that they made in the 50's. The Glenn Miller story was pretty much on par with with this one. Being a drummer i of course loved The Gene Krupa Story, but as a good movie it couldn't compete with these two.

I agree about missing Butch Miles who was my all time favorite Basie drummer. Jo Jones seems to be playing quite abit in his old 40's style with alot of the rhythm played on the hi-hats. Just doesn't work as well in modern big band jazz, not as much dynamics or propulsion.

Rufus doing some of the fastest and best crossovers that i've ever seen. He played with both Ellington and Basie and seemed to be kind of overlooked and underrated but was a really great drummer, fantastic soloist.
