Stefano Barbati was born in Lanciano (Chieti-Abruzzo-Italy) in 1973. At the age of 10 he began studying the classical guitar, but, after 3 years, he changed to blues and rock music. After listening to Pino Daniele's music, he developed an interest in acoustic guitar and he concentrated on the fingerstyle technique. Today his performance is based on acoustic guitar solo. His technique is inspired by great acoustic guitar masters like Michael Hedges, Tuck Andress and the Italian guitarist Franco Morone. He sums up in consistent and personal way the variety of musical forms that influence his style. From rock-blues to Mediterranean atmospheres, from Italian songwriters to modern acoustic guitar masters, Stefano Barbati's performance includes covers as well as original music, both showing a stylistical maturity aiming at a marked propension on melodic research. In 2003 he recorded a videotape "Suonare nello stile di Eric Clapton" (Playgame music), where he showed the famous English guitarist's performance techniques in a very simple and effective way. The label "fingerpicking.net" published in 2003 his first official CD "Il canto del mare" and in 2007 the second "Blues de rua", in these works Stefano shows expressive maturity and a strong bent for melody. In this project he collaborated with other musicians. His name is included between the 36 guitarists protagonists of double CD "36 - The fingerpicking.net sampler" with well-known names of Italian acoustic guitars players like Franco Morone, Beppe Gambetta, Daniele Bazzani.

Stefano Barbati è nato a Lanciano nel 73, inizia a suonare la chitarra classica all'età di 10 anni, presto si appassiona al blues e al rock suonando la chitarra elettrica in diverse formazioni frantane. Grazie all'ascolto di chitarristi come Michael Hedges, Pierre Bensusan e al rapporto amichevole con musicisti come Franco Morone e Paolo Giordano, Barbati si dedica alla chitarra acustica costruendo un repertorio imperniato sui brani originali accompagnati da covers di diversa estrazione che rivelano una sensibilità musicale in bilico fra l'irruenza rock-blues e la melodia mediterranea.
Grazie alla collaborazione con il portale internet Fingerpicking.net, pubblica nel 2003 il CD "Il canto del mare" e nel 2007 "Blues de Rua" in cui rivela una buona vena compositiva e interessanti spunti melodici.
Fa parte dei 36 chitarristi protagonisti del doppio CD "36 -- The fingerpicking.net sampler" insieme a nomi noti e meno noti della chitarra acustica italiana.
Realizza inoltre il video didattico "Suonare nello stile di Eric Clapton" per la Playgame Music.
Partecipa a diversi festival ed importanti rassegne in Italia e all'estero ("Acoustic Guitar International meeting" di Sarzana - "Pigro, omaggio a Ivan Graziani" a Teramo - "Acoustic music festival" di Pescara - "New Acoustic Festival" di Vasto - "Street Festival" di Zagabria "Nangis Festival" Parigi, "Dadi Guitar Festival" Milano)
Inoltre ha collaborato con alcuni comici del circuito Zelig come Alberto Patrucco e Antonio Cornacchione per lo spettacolo di satira politica Zelig Cult.
