From one steel guitar lover to another one...
Have a nice day, and keep on slidin' !
"PapaYellowSteel" (from France).
What you are doing is an Un-Trained Steel Imitation Gimmick. Commonly this is used to mask poor picking and muting(Blocking) Technique often with the player not even realizing they are doing this.
Many professional Pedal Steel Players will use a floor volume and train them selves to only use it for subtle volume changes.
Learning to use only he hands is the way nearly all of the good non pedal players go about playing.
Sorry for the Tough Love Everyone.
I am here to show the way to get a professional Tone and Technique out of your Steel Guitar, the same way I do on every one of my YouTube Videos.

"PYS" from France.
The Professor is about 80 percent complete with the New Best DVD To Date.
It is about the "D" String on the top out side of the C6th Tuning. The DVD- or 2 -- will be loaded up with Blues To Get You Every Where. I've Got BB Sounds - ZZ Sounds - Lead Spots with tons of licks you already know on your normal guitars just waiting for your arrival. Plus a whole lot more too!
I make this EZ to understand, and get Very Quickly. GeorgeBoards DVD Instructions do not require any previous music knowledge to learn. It does help; of course; the more theory and such you know.
Keep tuned in to SteelGuitarCamp for up dates on these New DVD's.
