The mission of the St. Bernard Project is to create housing opportunities so that Hurricane Katrina survivors can return to their homes and communities. The St. Bernard Project, a nonprofit, community-based organization carries out its mission through three primary programs: Rebuilding Program, Center for Wellness and Mental Health and Senior Housing Program. The problems we face are easily solved: all we need are funding and volunteers. Currently operating a rebuilding program and mental health and wellness clinic, we are committed to serving the needs of the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The St. Bernard Project was started in March 2006 by Zack Rosenburg and Liz McCartney. Touched by the stories and attitudes of the residents of St. Bernard Parish, the two left their lives in Washington D.C. to help the Parish residents.

Since its creation, St. Bernard Project has gotten more than 230 families home and has expanded into Orleans Parish. Through the help of volunteers and donors, the possibility of helping all of the victims of Hurricane Katrina becomes more and more possible, even though there's a long way to go.
